Chinese ambassador visits Dibba Bay oyster farm

We're planning exports to China!

We received a visit from HE Zhang Yiming, the Ambassador of China to the UAE, last week. The visit involved a tour of our facility located on the East Coast of the UAE in Dibba, Northern Fujairah.

We are currently producing over 300,000 oysters a month and exporting approximately 50% of our production around the world to countries that include Hong Kong, Malaysia, Mauritius, Maldives, and Seychelles. China is our next target for further expansion into Asian markets considering the country's high demand for premium oysters.

Ambassador Zhang Yiming congratulated our efforts saying “The UAE government attaches great importance to agricultural production, and the UAE 2051 National Food Security Strategy pays special attention to aquaculture and aquatic products. At present, China-UAE agricultural cooperation is developing rapidly and has become an important rising area of the China-UAE comprehensive strategic partnership. The Chinese embassy in the UAE has always cared about and supported China-UAE agricultural trade and cooperation. It hopes that the company will make persistent efforts to promote product exports and contribute to expanding bilateral cooperation areas and improving cooperation levels”

We have strengthened our production line and brand strategy with a mission crafted to translate into further growth, notably in becoming a global shellfish company. Achieving this goal will put yet another unique UAE product under the international spotlight and show the ability of the country to continuously innovate. “It was a pleasure to host Ambassador Zhang Yiming and discuss his knowledge of oysters. It was a timely visit as we are in the process of accessing China as an exciting new export market for the UAE’s local oyster.” said Ramie Murray, founder, and CEO of Dibba Bay.

This visit comes in the wake of our recent initiatives and accomplishments, including:

• The achievement of the Friend of the Sea certification for sustainable aquaculture. We were officially awarded the certificate at an award ceremony in Dibba on October 17th, 2022. To be a certified Friend of the Sea institution, aquaculture facilities must meet strict sustainable policies, waste management regulations, and social responsibilities.

• The launch of the Dibba Bay Oyster Reef Creation program; as part of our waste management program, dried Dibba Bay oyster shells are being returned to the ocean in non-pollutive gabion cylinders that are 80 cm high which act as building blocks that create habitat for marine ecosystems as well as offer a substrate for native oyster species growth.

• The launch of our second farm-to-table outlet in Dubai. Our second outlet is now open at the Sheraton Hotel in Jumeirah Beach Residence. It is located just a few steps off the beach, so pop in for fresh oysters and bubbles amidst the spectacular JBR views.
